The City of Avondale has an opportunity for a Senior Plans Examiner with the Development Services Department. This is a FLSA exempt, full-time position with benefits.
The Senior Plans Examiner analyzes and reviews commercial, multi-family, industrial, and residential building plans for permit issuance in compliance with the City’s adopted building codes. The position is expected to perform a wide array of plan reviews and additional assigned duties/tasks with considerable independence and efficiency from start to finish. The position provides guidance and oversight for the plans examiners and other technical staff as assigned. The Senior Plans Examiner receives general direction and/or supervisory management from the Deputy and/or Chief Building Official.
This Senior Plans Examiner position performs the review of complex projects and provides lead direction, guidance, and oversight for plans examiners and building division staff. Work is accomplished independently with a high level of organization and motivation required.
This position is responsible for organizing and leading preconstruction meetings with contractors, design professionals, owners, and staff on large and complex commercial, multi-family, industrial, and/or residential projects. The Senior Plans Examiner ensures adherence and interprets the City’s adopted building codes through the plan review process. Work includes plan review, coordinating construction projects, compiling statistical information, establishing performance requirements, and conducting training for plans examiners and other technical staff.
Adherence to building division processes and workflow directives with the ability to critically think and adapt as needed is essential. Work may be periodically examined by the Deputy and/or Chief Building Official during plan review and upon completion.
