Job Description:

The City of Willcox is seeking an Building Inspector/Code Enforcement 

 

Job Title:          Building Inspector/Code Enforcement

Department:     Development Services

Reports To:      Development Services Director

FLSA Status:    Exempt

Grade/Step:       $50,000-$70,000 DOE

Summary:  This position coordinates and administers development functions for the City of Willcox.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

      • Meets with developers to establish entitlements to property currently owned or considered for purchase including zoning, utility locations, public access, and flood zone.
      • Locates right of way and easements for streets and utilities; acquires right of way and/or easements as required.
      • Reviews development requirements and establishes development agreements to propose to City Council.
      • Monitors and evaluates municipal codes; makes recommendations for change including addition and/or deletion of codes.
      • Coordinates new development opportunities, building inspections, and permits.
      • Conducts Code Enforcement duties and provides guidance regarding building codes, city ordinances and safety regulations. Evaluates condition of City buildings and identify potential hazards to public safety.
      • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of Code Enforcement activities, operations, procedures, and methods; implements comprehensive permit database.
      • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Building Inspector

Summary Inspects new and existing buildings and structures to enforce conformance to building, grading, and zoning laws and approved plans, specifications, and standards by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

      • Conducts onsite building inspections; ensures public safety, health and welfare through the enforcement of building related codes and standards.
      • Performs a variety of field tests to determine building code compliance and/or identify code violations.
      • Applies code enforcement rules and regulationson City ordinances related to zoning.
      • Issues violation notices and orders; advises property owners and contractors regarding items that are prohibited by code and corrections necessary.
      • Reviews building construction plans for compliance with applicable regulations and codes.
      • Approves or rejects building construction plans.
      • Processes building permit applications and reviews related documentation.
      • Assists permit applicants with information related to their projects.
      • Communicates verbally and /or in writing with permit applicants and individuals in violation of building codes and Code Enforcement violations.
      • Prepares and maintains building inspection documentation, records, and reports.
      • Coordinates Code Enforcement activities.
      • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
      • May have some Supervisory Duties.
